Black hat SEO techniques used to be all the rage for businesses. Nobody wanted to spend the time and money creating value with White hat, honest SEO techniques.

In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology, black hat SEO refers to the use of aggressive SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus only on search engines and not a human audience, and usually does not obey search engines guidelines.

Black Hat SEO imageEverybody wanted results, and they wanted them fast. This meant they used techniques like keyword stuffing and spamming to get the results they wanted.

While this may have catapulted their sites to number 1 in the short term, it offered no value to anybody in the long term. In fact, the search engine’s algorithms quickly changed. Businesses who used these techniques were penalized.

These days, businesses must use White hat techniques. They must offer value to their customers, and make their site as valuable as possible if they want to improve their SEO. It’s more of a long term process now – Black hat SEO techniques are never going to cut it!

The search engines are always finding ways to thwart blackhat attempts. If you’re still going to attempt to use them after reading this, please rethink that decision!
